Phone signal is weak at where I am right now. Electricity has been shut off because of the strong winds but thank God, I'm safe inside our house with my family.

When Ondoy happened at exactly two years ago, almost the whole Philippines was affected. Floods everywhere, landslides on the mountains, and an alarming number of people who died are the headlines of the news. I'm hoping that people learned their lesson because of what happened and is more prepared this time. Just always be safe wherever you are right now.

World Food Expo, or more commonly known as WOFEX, is a yearly event in the Philippines that gives entrepreneurs a chance to showcase their food related business and products. This year, it was held on the World Trade Center and SMX Convention Center simultaneously for three consecutive days.

My sister convinced me to go with her at WOFEX as it is "a must" for her to be there. She wants to explore and discover new things, ingredients, and techniques that she can use in her profession (she's a very good pastry chef by the way).

Two weeks before the event, my sister found a deal on Cashcashpinoy that offers a 50% off on the ticket for WOFEX. Originally, the ticket costs 100 pesos per person. But with the deal, it only costs 100 pesos for two tickets. Us being 'kuripot', immediately bought one voucher and later on, bought another voucher for my sister's friends.

We went there on its third and last day as it is the only time we had. We originally planned to be there by 10am but due to unavoidable circumstances (ahem! traffic), we arrived at around 11:30. We are still waiting for my sister's friends arrival but decided to take a peak on what's in store for us inside.

As we entered the room, we were overwhelmed with the number of participants in the expo. We enjoyed ourselves with lots of free food (courtesy of free tastes) and my sister did a little bit of shopping for her baking stuff. Things sold there are discounted up to 70% off!!!





When the lunch time came, we decided to rest for awhile and eat a normal food (you know... the one that is not free taste). I decided to grab some hungarian sausage sandwich as it looks so yummy. While eating our lunch, we decided to listen to a demo done by a chef. He was promoting an appliance that can make your pizza very crunchy. I was busy with my lunch so I really didn't understood what he was trying to say.

After lunch, we decided to stroll once again and buy some food. I bought one loaf of wheat and fiber rich bread, three big bags of new chips (not yet available in the market) for only 45 pesos (15 pesos each). While my sister bought one big bag of onion rings for only 120 pesos.

When our feet got tired, we decided to go to the SMX Convention Center and check out what's in there. They offeref free shuttle going to the other venue (vice versa) so the guests can tranfers venues without any hassle (kudos to the organizers for doing that).

There was nothing special on the SMX. We knew that the competitions organized on WOFEX were held there so our expectations were low. There are few exhibitors here so there's not much to say. But we enjoyed taking pictures with the cakes, pastries, and dishes in the showroom. Those were the entries made by the contestants for the competition.



I enjoyed very much my experience in WOFEX 2011 and I'm looking forward for the next WOFEX in the Philippines.

• Sleep at least 8 hours before going to the cemetery. I know this might sound cliché but 8 hours of sleep is still best for your body. Preparing and going to the cemetery will really drain your body that's why you will be needing tons of energy and you can obtain that simply by having enough rest. Imagine yourself preparing, walking, riding jeepneys, MRTs, LRTs going to the cemetery without good rest... Do you think you can survive the next few hours of your stay in that vicinity? I don't think so. Save and get all the energy you will need for this day. If you can take energy drinks, or multi-vitamins just to have the strength you will need, then do so. It’s better to have lots of energy than to be weak, poor, and flabby.



• Wear comfortable clothes. I’m pretty sure you'll not be going to a cemetery party so you really don't need to dress up. I prefer wearing comfortable clothes when going to the cemetery. And when I say comfortable clothes, I mean pants or shorts, an ordinary t-shirt, and walking shoes. You have to remember that you're in the cemetery to visit and pray for your dead loved ones and not to show off to other people.



• Praying materials should come first. The sole purpose of you going to the cemetery is to remember your passed away loved ones and pray for their soul. I think it's only right to prioritize your praying materials instead of any other items. Praying materials include candles, flowers, praying pamphlets, rosaries, crucifix, bible, etc. Of course, praying materials depends as to what religion and beliefs you have. The cited examples of praying materials were based in the Catholic Christian religion.



• Bring important necessities and leave unnecessary items. Important necessities include drinking water, food, extra t-shirt, extra face towel, alcohol, band-aid, mini chair, umbrella, and a fan. Unnecessary items include radio, alcoholic drinks, playing cards, board games, and the things that it is not really needed. Paradise Philippines' cemetery can't accommodate all the things you wanted to bring. So let us all try to adjust and I'm pretty sure that everything will be alright.



• Leave kids at home. Every year, there has always been a case of a missing child on the cemetery. Let's face it: children will just be another burden if we will be bringing them to the cemetery. If you can let someone watch over them at your home, then that would be better. Or let your trusted neighbor watch over them. I don't think they'll mind since it doesn't happen often.
